Timothy Shortall will step in as MAX’s Interim Executive Director effective April 9th, 2026. Tim currently serves as the Director of Wide Area Networking. Tim has and continues to facilitate many customer connections and upgrades, represents MAX at conferences to establish its role as a top REN, and has managed and supported the MAX engineers to the finish line of a total network refresh. Tim is well versed in MAX’s business functionality, network infrastructure, and partnerships.
Tim has worked in the networking and telecommunications world for over 30 years at various organizations, including Penn State University and the University of Maryland for over 20 years. He has also overseen networking for the U.S. Postal Service, GTE Internetworking/Genuity, Smithsonian, and NIH. He has played a major role in several large network and telephony refresh projects at many of these organizations.
The MAX team was happy to see his return to University of Maryland a few years ago and now looks to his leadership as Interim Executive Director to help shape our future. Tim will be reporting to MAX’s recently appointed Assistant Vice President, Megan Masters, PhD.
