As of September 2025, Norbert Linke, Ph.D. has returned to University of Maryland stepping into his new role as the Director of QLab.
Linke attended Ulm University, and received his doctorate at the University of Oxford, UK, working on micro-fabricated ion-traps and microwave-addressing of ions. After post-doctoral work at Oxford, he spent four years as a post-doc and research scientist at the University of Maryland’s Joint Quantum Institute, where he led a project that turned a physics experiment into a programmable quantum computer. He became an assistant professor at UMD in 2019, transferred to the Duke Quantum Center (DQC) in 2022.
The MAX Team is elated to welcome Dr. Linke back to UMD and can’t wait to watch QLab flourish even further within the research and education sector. Read QLab’s article here.
