Tripti Sinha, Executive Director of MAX, has now transitioned into a new role as the President and CEO of Internet2.

Tripti also served as Assistant Vice President and Chief Technology Officer within the Division of Information Technology. Prior to her role as Executive Director, Tripti led the enterprise networking team for 12 years and headed up the first campus-wide infrastructure modernization program, which replaced UMD’s aging communications infrastructure and set the stage for the deployment of the modern technologies we use today, such as Wi-Fi and VoIP phone services.

Tripti has since provided exemplary leadership to the MAX team, guiding the delivery of cutting-edge high-performance networking and cyber infrastructure services. Her leadership has solidified the trust MAX has gained by many federal agencies, state government offices, and private business to offer reliable, well-maintained networking services. MAX provides direct access to its own dedicated research network, several cloud and content providers, DDoS protection, and commodity services to serve the R&E community. MAX is also nearing completion of a network wide refresh featuring updated hardware and speeds up to 800G.

Alongside her dedication to MAX, Tripti was an advocate for advancing UMD’s contributions to quantum research. She recently collaborated with researchers at UMD and partner institutions to deploy the Mid-Atlantic Region Quantum Internet (MARQI), an NSF-funded quantum network testbed and oversaw the establishment of the university’s National Quantum Lab (QLab). She also led the enterprise support of research technologies and high-performance computing (HPC), Tripti partnered with campus constituencies to fund and install the university’s enterprise HPC, Zaratan. Tripti and the MAX engineers have overseen the operations of D-root, one of the Internet’s 13 DNS root servers used in all Internet traffic. Under her leadership, D-root attained a globally distributed infrastructure deployed in over 125 countries at nearly 250 locations to ensure global DNS operation and high availability.

Beyond the university, Tripti was re-elected as a board member of ICANN in 2024 and currently serves as the Chair of the Board. Previously she was elected as co-chair of RSSAC, which is the root server system advisory committee for ICANN, from 2015-2018 and has also served on the QUILT board for the REN community. University of Maryland and MAX are beyond grateful for Tripti’s dedication to advancing the network in support of research and education projects and her willingness to delve into the possibilities of up and coming advancements. MAX is excited to see Tripti flourish in this new role!
