The Mid-Atlantic Crossroads (MAX) seeks an Executive Director responsible for providing national leadership, vision, innovation, planning and operation for MAX in support of the mission of delivering advanced networking technologies to MAX participants in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. The Executive Director reports administratively to the Vice President and Chief Information Officer of the University of Maryland, College Park, and is responsible to a Board of Directors consisting of the Chief Information Officers of Georgetown University, George Washington University, and the University of Maryland.

The Executive Director is responsible for: developing and executing a strategic plan for MAX that will ensure that MAX and the MAX partners are at the forefront of national networking and connectivity opportunities as they arise; ensuring that there continues to be a robust research agenda that benefits the MAX partners; ensuring that there is an efficient and customer oriented operational environment for delivery of MAX services; developing strategic partnerships to advance the mid-Atlantic region and to put the region at the forefront of national and international networking initiatives for the benefit of the MAX partners; providing guidance and oversight for the day-to-day operations of MAX; developing an external communications and public relations capability to promote MAX and its activities before the global community.

Minimum Qualifications

Advanced university degree in computer science, engineering, telecommunications, or related field. Ph.D. preferred. The successful applicant will have a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in the leadership and administration of major programs in advanced computer science, networking and/or telecommunications; strong interpersonal and communication skills; a minimum of three years of management experience, including personnel management; at least five years experience in academic research and higher education preferred; demonstrated outstanding leadership in the management of information technology organizations that have strong network operations and research components; demonstrated knowledge of financial and technical issues of wide area networks; an understanding of telecommunication technology trends; experience working with and partnering with state and national governments, private sector companies, and professional organizations; demonstrated entrepreneurial abilities and negotiation skills; experience in leading and managing convergence technologies; managerial skill in planning, organizing, evaluating and delegating.
